Our pricing model explained
There is often some debate about whether our software should be free (like Facebook) or open source (where we give away our source code for others to use and adapt).
Whilst our heart and joy come from seeing the TimeBanking movement grow - and we know that money is often a barrier to fledging TimeBanks - so too is software that is hard to use, out of date (rendering your member data unsafe), or relies on selling your data to advertisers or researchers to make ends meet.
This is the unfortunate reality for other TimeBanking software providers.
Working alongside Made Open, the team at TimeBanks.Org have worked hard to ensure your community TimeBanks are easy-to-use across any mobile, tablet, or desktop device. Software and security protocols are up-to-date, meaning your data is safe. All of our platforms are 100% ad-free and we will never sell your data to researchers, not now not ever.
Everyone's ideal scenario, of course, is for all community TimeBanks to be free to members and this is why we provide a 'Community-funded' member plan so that community organizations can pay on behalf of their members.
We know however that not all TimeBanks have a community organization behind them. Often, coordinators have to manually collect subscriptions from their members.
Our 'Member-pay' and 'Member-subsidized' member plans are answers to this. In the Member-pay plan, members can join their TimeBank for $3 per month - the price of a cup of coffee each month. Our Member-subsidized plan is even cheaper. With an annual fee of $200, members can join their TimeBank for as little as $1 per month.
In summary, here are the main reasons that our software is priced how it is:
- The Member-pay plan allows coordinators to sustain their TimeBank without absorbing the costs themselves or feeling pressured to raise funds on behalf of their members.
- The Member-subsidized pay plan allows community leaders to support and subsidize their members further by contributing towards a small annual subscription fee.
- The Community-funded plan allows TimeBanks to fully subsidize their members by paying an annual subscription fee; ensuring the platform remains free-to-use.
We recognize that some TimeBanks may still find these options difficult and that other TimeBanking providers will condemn a payment structure of any form. We are not the lowest-cost option. We do not camouflage any hidden issues.
What we do is invest in TimeBanks. Good software and services require investment and that's precisely what you're getting from us; easy-to-use and secure software with continued updates, incredible customer support, rock solid infrastructure, community programs, trust-building tools, workshops, and a whole lot more.
So...
While we don't blame anyone for wanting our platforms to be free or open source, ultimately our goal is to provide an amazing platform and wrap-around services without compromising on quality.
