It was great to meet so many people interested in discussing ways to increase inclusivity and address barriers and challenges. There were many ideas shared and I think it’s important to keep the conversation going (you have to promise to ignore the terrible picture of me above)
I find it interesting and critical to hear how our TimeBank is perceived. I have heard that some people think it’s for sick and older people (due to the sponsorship by a homecare agency) even though we have representation from every decade and only 40% are over the age of sixty.
some people think it’s not for english speakers (due to the prevalence of other languages at our gatherings) even though about 52% are fluent in english.
creating an inclusive bank that is welcoming to all is what we strive for daily and we try to address these perceptions as we go along.
