About
TimeBank Advocate
In 2006, I read an article about timebanking, googled the concept and purchased the book, Time Dollars, by Edgar Cahn. This book changed my life.
I started the Kent Community TimeBank in 2010 and by 2013, we had 4 other communities interested in starting a timebank. We created the Crooked River Alliance of TimeBanks (CRAT) whose mission is to teach, train and provide resources to local timebanks. The 5 communities are umbrella-ed under CRAT.
With our staff and now over 1200 members, we have exchanged over 70,000 hours of service to each other and the greater community. In 2013, we timebanked 33.5 hours each and every day.
Not only individuals but groups, organizations, non-profits, small businesses and merchants are able to utilize timebanking. We have partnered with Kent Social Services, Family and Community Services, The Miller and Freedom House, Habitat for Humanity and the Haymaker Farmer's market to find out that our community is rich in resources.
Banking on community. That's what we do.
